EMBANK COURT

Meet Rob, Ti & Sophia!

Set within a post-war family home in Melbourne’s north-west, the original layout reflected its era - practical, compact and built to last, but in need of reworking to suit modern family life.

Rob & Ti’s brief was simple:

  1. We need more space and storage in our current kitchen.

  2. We don’t want to overcapitalise because is this not our forever home.

So that’s exactly what we did.

A well-planned small kitchen can be better than a large kitchen that doesn’t function well. (Yes, you heard that right!) Rather than extending or overcomplicating things, we looked inward. Merging the existing laundry with the kitchen became a small but powerful move, unlocking space for a butler’s pantry, additional bench space and storage where it was actually needed.

The island was widened and repositioned to improve circulation, allowing the kitchen to feel more open, functional and comfortable to move through. These small adjustments made it a space where Rob could show off his culinary skills and Ti could do food prep for Sophia, all at the same time.

Material choices were considered and restrained. Warm timber tones are paired with marble benchtops and gentle curves, subtly referencing the original home without overpowering it. Nothing feels added for the sake of it. Every decision has a purpose.

The result is a non-invasive renovation that transforms the kitchen into the true heart of the home. A space designed not just to look good, but to host, gather and support everyday living with ease.
